There will be two competitions: one for children in grades 1-3 and another for those in grades 4-5. Also, as the event is on June 26, we are referring to the grade just completed.

When and where is the spelling bee?
Spell to Save Lives will take place on Saturday, June 26, 2010. The grade 1-3 bee will be from 12:30-2:30PM, and the grade 4-5 from 3:00-5:00pM. It will take place at the Edison Valley Playhouse on 2196 Oak Tree Road, Edison, NJ.

Where do we park?
Most cars can be parked in the gravel lot behind the playhouse; there will be staff directing cars on the day of.

What is the registration fee?
The registration is $15 per child, payable in cash or check (made out to cash) at the door.

What is the competition like?
There will first be a written round consisting of 15 words, followed by four oral rounds. In the case of ties, there will be a lightning round to decide ranking.

What are the prizes?
First prize in each category is a $100 scholarship; second is $50 and third $25.

Where do our registration fees go?
Spell to Save Lives is entirely nonprofit and all funds will go towards building a library for children at the Save Lives Orphanage in Kathmandu, Nepal.

How do I prepare for the Bee?
The words in each level will be age and grade-appropriate. We are not looking to test the children on obscure or difficult words. However, we will be uploading sample word lists onto this website soon as a guideline as to the difficulty of words that will be asked. 8 out of 15 words on the written rounds will be from the lists, and the other 7 written and all 4 oral words will be from outside sources.
